Warming up and Cooling down is really important both pre and post workout for many reasons. Starting with the benefits and importance of warming up ACE states:

  • Increases the degradation of oxyhemoglobin
    Breaking down the chemical complex of oxygen and hemoglobin results in the release of oxygen from the blood, enhancing the delivery of oxygen to the exercising muscles
  • Increases body temperature
    The elevation in body temperature produced by warming up reduces the potential for skeletal muscle injuries and connective injuries, since cold muscle and tendons have been shown to be more susceptible to injury.
  • Increases blood flow to the exercising muscles

What is Proper Running Form? There is so much debate on how to run properly these days and I want to give a little insite as to why we need to look at how the body is designed to naturally run and how to do that. I hear so many people say running is so bad for you, it is so hard on the body, people should not run! Take a look at kids, look back in past where we hunted chasing after our food, running as a messenger during war. We are built to run!  Can we have poor mechanics, poor stride, or muscle imbalances, that can make running bad for us? Absolutely! I can be out on a run and almost guarantee that during that run I will see at least one person that I want to say should not run. Now is it that they should never run? No! It is simply that if they keep running they way they are they are bound to injure themselves. However with the right training, movement patterns, and soft tissue (fascia) work, they can run efficiently, and where it would not be harmful to their bodies.Continue reading

Which do you prefer, an outdoor workout or an indoor workout? Is one better than the other? There are benefits to both it just depends on your goals and what it is you are trying to achieve. Let’s find out the benefits of both and maybe you can determine which is better for you when it comes to an indoor setting or and outdoor setting.

The “great outdoors”, “Mother Nature”, “God’s creation”,  whatever you call outside just by the names I listed it almost give you a peaceful thought just to read them. One of the benefits to being out side is the sense of peace you get from the beautiful scenery that you are surrounded by.

This is a topic that really sadden’s my heart. Every where I go I see toddlers, children, preteen, teenagers and young adults that are over-weight, obese and yes I even see some that I would say are Morbidly Obese. How sad is that! Who’s fault is that? It is ours, us the parents, the supposedly smart adults in America that are setting our children up to lead extremely unhealthy lifestyles, to have a life full of sickness, full of self confidence, and potentially an early death! Do we really want to be the parents burying our children before us?

Center for Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. In 2008 alone more than 1/3 of adolescents alone where overweight or obese. WOW! I could not find the stats of what it is 4 years later being 2012, however I can only imagine it is grown to more than this.
